Frederick Tirrell has once again written an excellent book in How the Deaf
Boy Saved Independence Day, a captivating story that masterfully
demonstrates how children with disabilities also possess, oftentimes, great
strength and unique capabilities. Through the inspiring journey of its young
hero, the narrative powerfully conveys that perceived limitations can be the
very source of unexpected courage and resourcefulness, delivering a vital
and uplifting message for both parents and children about focusing on
ability rather than disability. This engaging tale is not only a thrilling holiday
adventure but also an important celebration of inclusivity and inner
fortitude.

SUMMARY

A set of 11-year-old identical twins arrive at their grandparents’ house on
Cape Cod to celebrate the 4th of July. One of the twins is deaf. They along
with a friend paddle a canoe to an isolated area near where fireworks are
distributed in preparation for the holiday celebration. During the actual
show an errant rocket strikes one boy and while one twin tends to the
injury the deaf boy goes for and gets help.

EASTER BUNNY

The Year the Easter Bunny Got Lost- On a dark, cloudy night, the Easter
Bunny is flying around the world, delivering and hiding Easter eggs. He
arrives at a house and starts to hide the eggs. There is a power outage,
and he can’t see and hits his head on a lamp. Suddenly, he hears a little
voice asking, “Who is there?” No one is supposed to see the Easter
Bunny. But the voice reveals it is a little girl who is blind. Since she can’t
see him, he reveals himself to her. She knows her way around the house
without sight. After talking, she helps him place the eggs in hiding places.
He is grateful that this little girl, who cannot see, becomes his hero.
This is a story everyone will enjoy. It’s sweet, very creative, and even a little
mysterious. I loved every thought given to this fun adventure. You won’t be
disappointed.
